Birth Certificate Application Requirements
Application for a Zimbabwean Passport
Please be advised that you need to come in person to complete and submit your application form because you need to have your fingerprints taken at the Embassy for the passport.
The following are required when submitting the application form:-
1. Original and copies of Long Birth Certificate.
2. Original and copies of National Registration Card (ID).
3. Marriage Certificate for married women and ID in married name.
4. Proof of Citizenship(for 18 years old and above), if claiming citizenship in Zimbabwe by descent, registration o naturalization.
5. Old passport (photocopy pages 1 to 5 for old-type, last page for new-type and visa page), or Police Report if old passport is lost.
6. Fee of £ 80,00 (eighty pounds) cash or postal orders, (additional £20,00 for lost or stolen passports and £40,00 for defaced passports), £3,00 application form.
7. 2 photos 4.5cm long by 3.5cm wide, taken from a studio with a white background.
8. Consent of father/legal guardian required for children under 18.
9. ID requiere for children over 16 years of age.
Application for an Emergency Travel Document
1. Applications to be submitted in person
2. Applicants are adviced to check with the country/countries they are travelling to confirm that a visa will be issued on an ETD.
3. Consent of father/legal guardian required for children under 16.
4. Those claiming to have lost their passport are required to supply proof of their eligibility to hold a Zimbabwean travel document, i.e. Birth certificate or national registration card.
5. Two passport size photographs
6. Payment to be done in cash or postal orders.
Child Registration
You are required to fill in BD3 forms. When filling the forms please note the following:
Section 7 will only be filled in before a Notary Public or Commissioner of Oaths. In the Embassy in the Consular Officer is the Commissioner of Oaths and those who wish to have their forms signed must make an appointment with him.
In all cases they should bring their passports for identification.
Section 8 is also only signed before a Notary Public or Commissioner of Oaths.
When the forms have been signed it is the applicant’s responsibility to send these forms to the Registrar General’s Office, P Bag 7734, Causeway, Harare, Zimbabwe; together with the following attachments which must be certified photocopies:
1. The child’s birth certificate.
2. Both parents birth certificates.
3. Both parents’ Zimbabwe National Registration Cards.
4. Marriage certificate if applicable.
5. Copies of the first pages of parents’ passports.
There is a fee of £20.00 (Twenty Pounds sterling), which should be paid.
Guidance on Citizenship
1. The Citizenship of Zimbabwe Amendment Act No. 12 of 2001 was enacted on 6 July 2001 to provide for prohibition of dual and/or multiple citizenship and the time and manner to renounce foreign citizenship (in the case of a persone with dual citizenship)
2. People with dual citizenship are those people who are also citizens of foreign countries:
Those persons born outside Zimbabwe and became citizens of Zimbabwe by registration (even if these people had renounced foreign citizenship according to Zimbabwean law in 1985).
Those persons born outside Zimbabwe to Zimbabwean citizen parents but had adquired citizenship of foreign countries by birth.
People born in Zimbabwe to parents of foreign origin and are also citizens of foreign countries by descent. Please note that this citizenship status by descent is inherent and is not voluntarily applied for. This category is in the majority of the dual citizenship holders.
All citizenship issues are processed in Harare at the Citizenship Office. Therefore, all enquiries related to renunciation of foreign citizenship, regularisation or confirmation of citizenship, must be forwarded to the Citizenship Office, The Registrar-General, P O Box 7734, Causeway, Harare, Tel. Duplicate Birth, Death or Marriage Certificates
In order to obtain duplicates of birth, death and marriage certificates you should write to the following address:
