The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking an intern to work in our Operations Team in their work for the Voluntary Assisted Return and Reintegration Programmes (VARRP), and to assist generally within the office.
The position will commence as soon as possible either on a full or part-time basis (times negotiable, although a minimum of 2.5 days per week is required). The Internship is initially for a three month period.
The International Organization for Migration is an international, inter-governmental organisation with over 280 offices worldwide, working with governments and project partners to promote orderly migration and to uphold the rights of migrants. IOM Dublin provides services which benefit asylum seekers and migrants wishing to return home voluntarily but who do not have the means to do so.
The duties involved encompass many aspects of the work of IOM Dublin, and will include:
- Responding to telephone and written enquiries from potential clients and their representatives.
- Updating and maintaining client files and database records.
- Assisting returnees in obtaining valid travel documentation from appropriate Embassies and Consulates, and making the necessary travel arrangements in liaison with travel agencies.
- General office administrative work, including reception duties.
- Assisting the Information Assistant in updating and maintaining contact lists and databases.
- Liaising on a regular basis with the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform, various NGO’s and statutory bodies, and other IOM offices worldwide.
- Providing administrative support to the counter-trafficking in persons forum Ireland en Route
Applicants should have the following skills or experience:
- Interest in migration issues both internationally and in Ireland.
- Interest in issues relating to counter trafficking in persons is desirable, though not essential.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft office tools.
- Fluency in English; fluency in another language is desirable though not essential.

ADMIN
- To assist in the general working of the office, including:
- General office administrative work, including reception duties;
- Responding to telephone and written enquiries;
- Assisting with the incoming and outgoing post;
- Assisting the Information Unit in mail shots;
- Database preparation, including updating and reviewing contact databases.
FINANCE
- Balancing, recording and tracking of petty cash.
- Assisting with the preparation/ inputting of information to accounts system.
- Reconciling bank accounts and IOM internal financial operating system.
- Assisting in the managing of invoices, especially for client translation services.
Other duties as may be required.
Applicants should have the following skills or experience:
- Experience in financial systems (e.g. book-keeping, invoicing etc).
- Knowledge of SAP is desirable.
- Familiarity with Microsoft office tools, in particular Excel.
- Organised and efficient office skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Fluency in English; fluency in another language is desirable though not essential.
