Unaccompanied and Aged Out Minors

Voluntary Assisted Return and Reintegration Programme

IOM
Funding received from the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform

Through IOM Dublin’s Voluntary Assisted Return and Reintegration Programme, we are able to provide assistance for the safe and dignified return of unaccompanied minors and aged-out minors to their home country, should it be deemed the most appropriate place for their care, as well as providing a reintegration grant to help their resettlement.

As this is a particularly vulnerable group with very specific needs, clearly defined and agreed procedures are followed in order to ensure the best interests of each child or young adult are met and to provide the most appropriate assistance for their safe return home and reunion with their families or carers, where this is deemed to be the most appropriate solution.

The programme is run in partnership with the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform, social workers from the Health Service Executive, and other key agencies.

Through IOM’s network of offices around the world, IOM can assist in determining the appropriateness of voluntary return, and the relationship between the minor and relatives in the country of origin. Assistance to minors will include travel arrangements, documentation and transportation in the home country. Reintegration support is tailored to the specific needs of the child or young adult and his/her family, and may include among other things help in re-entering the education system or referral to the appropriate health and social services.
