   Reintegration Assistance

Who can apply for Reintegration Assistance?

All returnees returning under any of the programmes offered by IOM Dublin can apply to the fund. Most people apply for assistance prior to departure from Ireland, but you can also do so in your home country up to three months after your return.

What does the Reintegration Assistance cover?

The assistance IOM can provide depends upon what is available in your home country, but types of assistance might include:

Vocational Training Courses: such as computing, hairdressing, driving, tailoring etc. IOM will help pay for the tuition fees, equipment or books.

Education :( School/University fee) IOM can help pay for the fees, books or uniforms required. We pay for children to attend state or government schools unless only private schools are available.

Setting up small businesses: such as sewing, trading, farming or joining the existing businesses of friends and family. IOM can provide some equipment, tools or stock depending on what your business needs.

Reintegration assistance does NOT cover

  • Accommodation/rent
  • Medical costs
  • Excess baggage costs

How do I apply for Reintegration Assistance?

If you are thinking of returning home and would like reintegration assistance, think about the assistance you would like upon your return (vocational, educational or in setting up a small business), and complete a reintegration application form.

The form can be obtained by calling IOM Dublin on (01) 8787900, or by calling into the office and speaking to a member of staff.

It is important that you provide us with as much detail as necessary concerning the reintegration activity you are thinking about. If you are thinking of setting up a small business, you will be asked to complete a business plan.

What if I can’t make up my mind, or change my mind about what I want to do?

If you can’t make up your mind about what you want to do before you leave Ireland, let us know. You will then have to contact the IOM office in your home country once you return.

If you change your mind about the type of assistance you would like to receive, you should then also contact the IOM office in your home country, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

Where is reintegration assistance available?

Reintegration assistance is available only in your home country and not while you are still in Ireland.

Who will help me when I’m back in my home country?

IOM has more than 240 offices around the world. In cases where there is no local office, IOM will try to find assistance from a local partner organisation. It may be that the closest regional IOM office will be able to administer your reintegration assistance.

The IOM office or partner agency in your home country will receive a copy of your reintegration application and will be aware of your needs.

On the day you leave Ireland, you will be given a letter confirming that you have applied for reintegration assistance with IOM Dublin. This will also contain the contact details of the IOM office or partner agency in your country. You are expected to contact them shortly after arrival.

If you have any further questions on IOM's reintegration fund, please do not hesitate to contact IOM Dublin at (01) 8787900, or by e-mail to info@iomdublin.org
